North Creek Turntable
There are two stories in connection with the building of this turntable. The first is that it’s mentioned on a D&H Valuation map as being a new turntable built in 1943. The data entry on the map is dated 2/19/44 along with an entry about the new engine house. Since these entries are usually several months after the event, this would put the build date in 1943.
The second is from the Bridge Line Historical Society Bulletin from May, 2003. "According to Harry Schultz, retired former Assisstant Division Engineer, the 90 ft. turntable was brought from Altamont, NY and installed in 1944 after a severe washout damaged the previous one." The local paper records that a rain storm in June, 1944 caused alot of damage and that several railroad bridges were washed out and train service suspended.
Perhaps the new turntable installed in 1943 was damaged? Not sure on this one.
It was restored in 2001 by the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department along with the Town of Johnsburg and on 9/21/02 had its first turn. www.adirondackbranch.net/sNtt.html++ ++ ++ ++ ++
